I remember learning how to paint can be very daunting and kinda scary. Using a limited palette is a nice way to ease your way into color. This is another really neat exercise from Richard Keyes' Color Theory class. Using 3 paints -- 2 complementary color and white, recreate a master copy from a photograph. You will be surprised on how much range of color you can get from using 3 different paints.
For this exercise, you MUST use real acrylic paint. I used liquitex heavy body, that's the one Gary Meyers and Bob Kato also uses their class.
This is my homework from Richard's class. I used ultramarine blue, cadmium orange, and titanium white. I wish I kept the original photo I use, it was from a travel book of Bali.
green vs. red; orange vs. blue; yellow vs. violet
Try it out and have fun.
